I'm a Sichuanese American writer/illustrator based in NYC. I’m also creator of the Panda Cub Stories webcomics, the star of which is fluffy and pugnacious panda cub (who is a real softie at heart). As such, panda will also star in my first - and only - PFP (profile picture) NFT collection: 888 Panda Cub Guardians.
What are Panda Cub Guardians?
As an artist, I strive to make work that adds (not takes) value from this world. Panda has already helped me teach my students Chinese characters through our Panda Cub Comics, and teach my foodie students how to cook Sichuanese in the Panda Cub Diner e-course.
Now...it's time for these ADORABLY BADASS pandas to storm into the NFT space as a force for good!!
30% of my yearly profits will go towards funding mental health support programs (I will be donating to NAMI). I was 25 when I sought treatment for depression, anxiety and what I learned was (inattentive) ADHD. It was life changing, and I hope to give back to the community through my art.
Mangas, cartoons, anime, graphic and web novels have brought me joy and solace.
That's why I became a I'm a comic artist! 888 Panda Guardians differs from other generative PFP projects in that we embrace intentionality over chance: each Panda Guardian is planned and drawn by hand. Attributes - in lieu of being randomly generated - are selected carefully to match each panda's purrsonality and ethos. Each of these 888 cubs have traveled far and wide, through time and space and through many literary worlds! They carry with them the hope and resilience of some of my favorite characters and stories...and are on a quest to find their special hero(ine).
A Different Kind of "Generative"
In the NFT space, PFP projects launch with a "genesis collection": hundreds (if not thousands) of algorithmically generated pieces - some rare, some less so. If successful, a second collection will be released...an evolution from collection to collection.
888 Panda Guardians is a different kind of generative project: it's a collection that will (intentionally) take years to complete. It's meant to be a "meta" collection grows alongside Panda Cub Stories (and her artist) throughout her career in this ever-expanding metaverse. Each panda is a piece of history, artwork generated and inspired by all that has come before it. Imagine if Picasso released unique "collectibles" that followed his stylistic growth from his early period all the way to his late period. Did I compare myself to Picasso? Why yes. Yes I did. Pandacasso said I could!
Road Map:
In the Spring of 2022, the first Panda Cub Guardians will spring forth from story-land into our Web3 world. They will descend (in pairs and in squadrons) via holaplex auction, ready to match with their new partners!
